Spring Broke
So I finally got on the bandwagon of all my barely popular MP3 blog contemporaries and set up a page at Last.fm. Now can someone explain to me the point of it? All it's really done for me is make me amazingly self-conscious about what I'm listening to - I can't end my day with a nonstop marathon session of "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" on repeat without being judged by some anonymous music geek prick.
It is funny to try and see it figure out which albums some of the insanely obscure tracks I play are from. I don't know why it doesn't just stick with the album field in the ID3 tag, because so far it's been wrong about eight times - especially with weird remixes and B-sides. I think the only productive aspect of me having a page on this site now is that people who regularly visit my blog can figure out what I'm going to post about three hours before I actually do - since I listen to everything once through in iTunes just to make sure I didn't leave any skips or major fuck ups in.
Weezer
Hash Pipe (The Jimmy Pop Remix)
Hash Pipe (Chris Vrenna's Kick Me Remix)
Hash Pipe (Chris Vrenna's Under Glass Remix)
On a list of semi-reputable bands that need to have their singles remixed into club-friendly dance tracks Weezer is probably right next to Silverchair (although remixes of anything of off Make Believe couldn't make any of those fucking songs any worse). "Hash Pipe" was their comeback single right? It was the first one off of the Green Album, so maybe they felt the need to hedge their bets a bit. The first two remixes are actually quite good, and the last one is a little too long and excessive on the vocal tricks.
Devo
Here To Go (Go Mix Version)
Here To Go (Here To Dub Version)
Shout (E-Z Listening Version)
Yet another case of me stumbling into something awesomely cool with me having no idea about its true sweetness, I picked up this 12'' single solely because of its awesome cover. I had no idea that the "EZ Listening" version of "Shout" was ever released on the fanclub-only release "EZ Listening Device" which was chronically rare and out of print. Enjoy the rareness of that track and the two bitchin' remixes of "Here To Go". The "Go Mix" version is also on the Pioneers Who Got Scalped Anthology but the dub version remains unreleased on CD as far as I know.
Devo question for all those Devo fans out there, was the Tank Girl version of "Girl U Want" ever released on any other album? If it wasn't I might put it up here.
The B-52's
Love Shack (12'' Remix)
Love Shack (12'' Mix)
Love Shack (Big Radio Mix)
Channel Z (12'' Rock Mix)
The above tracklisting is not a mistake, the tracks from this 12'' single include a "12'' Remix" and a "12'' Mix". Strangely, despite having incredibly similar names the two tracks are vastly different. The remix is a straight-forward extended take on the iconic dance track, while the mix is a wacky bass-heavy re-imagining of it that includes a random sample of The Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud To Beg." The "Big Radio Mix" also includes the same odd samples.

wow! great stuff. you rock!
Wow - another stellar post. Re: Weezer, it was nice to see Chris Vrenna kept busy in between his NIN and Gnarles Barkley gigs. Re: B-52's, the mixes psyche me up for the new album. As for Devo, I'm still perplexed how a band that cool came up with a band like Devo 2.0. Imagine what your Last-FM'ers would say if you so much as whiffed a Devo 2.0 track. Then again, you should listen to Rico Suave right now just to get their nuts in a bunch.
Dude! Stfu! I thought a lot of the songs on the last Weez album kicked ass (We Are All On Drugs, This Is Such A Pity, etc). :)
The only crappy Weez songs are the Weez remixes you just posted...
Like the weez and B-52 mixes, weird takes all around on those. ANything vrenna is appreciated.
as far as i can tell the 'tank girl' version of 'girl u want' was only released on that soundtrack. the only reason that version exists is the fact that the director originally intended for soundgarden's cover of it to go onto the opening credits, but couldn't get the song. so she did the next best thing, got devo who in turned covered the soundgarden cover of their song...go figure.
